Spiritual Committee
CSU is a PIOUS Association. Our primary objective is to foster spiritual growth among members through praying. The Association was purposely established to help us gather together and pray for our intentions. It is an avenue for us to solidify our FAITH as well as understand the DOCTRINES of the Catholic Church, render SERVICES to mankind and support the growth of the Church.
Knowing that prayer comes from the heart, we should avoid praying from the height of pride. Rather, we should imbibe a humble and contrite spirit.
In other words, prayer:
Helps us to understand and appreciate God’s purpose in our lives;
Helps is to develop necessary resistance to sin and allure of the flesh;
Makes the will of God to come to fulfillment in our lives;
Lifts us up to higher spiritual realm.
Responsibilities of the Parish Spiritual Coordinator are:
Ensure that all spiritual activities of the Association are well coordinated
Attend weekly prayer meetings early, arrange chairs and begin rosary once it is time and there are at least two (2) sisters
Arrange speakers to deliver talks
Organize married retreat and singles retreat
Mobilize sisters for CSU National and diocesan spiritual programs such as the Lenten and advent recollections as well as the live-in retreat;
Meet with the Spiritual Director on behalf of the Association
Lead prayers or appoint a sister to do so;
Book novena masses against 1st-9th every month or Tridium masses on 1st-3rd of every month for intention of the association, Members and all our benefactors
Ensure spiritual committee is properly formed in a probationary Parish
Attend Inauguration and Induction Parishes to educate them on the spiritual activities
Represent the association at the diocesan and national levels on spiritual matters and programs
Liaise with publicity secretary for announcements on spiritual matters whenever necessary;
Keep the Association informed on matters affecting Catholic Church.
Ensure that weekly prayer meeting is properly organized with the use of CSU handbook.
Draw a timetable for sisters to coordinate the monthly
Encourage all sisters to own a rosary, Catholic Bible and the Association Handbook
Spiritual Programs
The live-in retreat is an annual program organized by the CSU National with a Parish as the host. It is a weekend silent retreat designed to enrich Sisters spirituality. All members of CSU whether inducted or still undergoing probation are mandatory to attend.
Advent means the season that begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. During Advent we prepare our heart and mind for Christ, reasons why CSU sees it mandatory to organized recollection program for sisters to user in the Christmas.
Lent consist of the forty days before Easter. As Catholics, this the time for abstinence in order to be stronger in our faith as Catholics. We are encouraged to go through the sacrament of penance during this period.
It is a program designed for sisters to help us recollect and reflect on our life and seek God’s holy face and total intervention on issues bordering us. Be it marriage, children, finance etc.
It is a nine consecutive days prayer. We call on our patron saint – St Rita to pray for us. May God through St Rita grant us our heart desire through Christ our Lord Amen.
It is a pre-agreed session where sisters at a time of the day agreed to lift up their voices to GOD in prayer.
This has been designed for a day to combat the attacks on Christendom. Members are encouraged to fast and pray for the church.
This a day taken out by sisters to come together for prayers once in a week in their respective Parishes. The program for this weekly prayer includes;
1st Week – General Meeting
2nd Week – Bible Sharing.
3rd Week – Spiritual Talk
4th Week – Blessed Sacrament Adoration or 20 Decades of the Rosary.
5th Week – Praise Worship/intercessory prayers and Testimonies.
My Responsibility As a Member of CSU Towards The Spiritual Programs.
As a member of CSU, punctuality and regularity at meetings and all CSU gatherings is very 1important. Members make it a point of duty to keep to time with God which shows the level of commitment.
As a CSU member, our talent is need for the work of God. Having been given so much gifts of the Holy Spirit, we bear fruits of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5 v 22-26. Sisters we can see the extent to which our talents are required to move our Association forward. Let us not hold back our God-given talent. The Association needs it. Our households should function as a proper domestic Church.
Sisters we are also called to use our treasure to worship God. We use our treasure by supporting the association financially: paying our dues, charity support and support fundraising.
Weekly Spiritual meetings shall hold as follows:
(i) Week 1 – General Meeting
(ii) Week 2 – Bible Sharing
(iii) Week 3 – Spiritual Talk
(iv) Week 4 – Alternate of Blessed Sacrament Adoration and 20 decades of the rosary
(v) Week 5 – Praise worship / Intercessory prayers / Testimony
